Elephant for Joel

Lots of animal birthday cakes these past couple of weeks! This time it's an elephant for Joel who turned one!  Joel's cake is vanilla with green tea buttercream and we kept the decorations simple: a small elephant with heart-shaped ears along with a big letter 'J'.

Hope you had a rockin' first birthday Joel...just like your rockstar hairstyle =)

Farmhouse birthday!

Party time!  It's time to make a cake for not one, not two but three babies! Luke, Kaitlyn and Matthew are all turning one! It's a farm theme birthday party so their cake is decorated with farmhouse animals.  Little Kaitlyn is a sheep, Little Luke a pig and Little Matthew a cow:

Cupcakes topped with the animals made with fondant complete the display =)

The Very Hungry Caterpillar

Right after I got back from vacation, it was time to get busy for Daniel's birthday cake!  The theme for his party was caterpillar...how cute!  His cake was inspired by The Very Hungry Caterpillar.  For those who are unfamiliar, The Very Hungry Caterpillar is an awarding-winning children's book that features what other than a caterpillar:

The caterpillar's head was made with a cake; its body comprised of cupcakes with varying shades of green buttercream and sprinkled with leaves made with fondant.

Cute cake for a cute boy! Happy birthday Daniel...hope you had a blast!

Ocean-themed Wedding Cake

I had created a wedding cake for a couple before I left for vacation a few weeks ago and now that I'm back, I finally have some time to post an update!

It was an ocean-themed wedding so the bride wanted to incorporate seashells, sand and pearls. The seashells were created using molds and all hand-painted.

The cake topper was a pair of starfish 'holding hands' to create a heart shape in the middle =)

James' 1st birthday cake

It's been a while since I updated the blog!  A new baby does take up a lot of time so I had been on a bit of a hiatus.  But what better way to get back into the swing of things than to make a baby's first birthday cake?

James' mommy had a very clear vision of what she wanted for her son's cake from the start and I loved her idea!  The theme for his cake is James' favourite toys.

A car, a ball and a set of stacking rings - baby's favourites - were the focus of the cake.  They were made with gumpaste and serve as cake toppers.  The rest of the cake was kept simple.

I hope you had an awesome birthday James and that you liked your cake as much as I enjoyed making it!
